Assembly must maintain authenticity: Speaker

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Sept 28: Assam Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami on Friday expressed his concern and unhappiness over incomplete, misplaced facts and information by many ministers while responding to various issues and queries raised by MLAs in the House.

Goswami who is himself a reputed lawyer and experienced lawmaker, said the Assembly is considered to be an august institution in a democracy and everyone must be very serious, accurate and authentic while placing information in such platform. He said some MLAs are not happy with information provided by ministers.

“These MLAs have expressed grievances before me over the issue. Some grievances are very genuine and ministers must rectify their ways of giving information,” he said.

The Speaker while observing that wrong information in Assembly is detrimental for democracy, urged the ministers to sort out the issue with concerned officials and departments so that MLAs must get correct and comprehensive information. He expressed resentment that the people are also now critical about functioning of the Assembly due to presentation of wrong and incomplete information.
