Iqbal Hussain front runner for BJP ticket in South Karimganj

GUWAHATI, Jan 21: Out of nowhere, the me of Iqbal Hussain is now echoing at the State BJP headquarters in Hengerabari. A strong lobby of BJP leaders from Barak valley not only wants Iqbal Hussain to be included in the BJP, but also wants to ensure his candidature from South Karimganj constituency. A party source has disclosed that this lobby is being led by MLA Dilip Paul.

The origil BJP ticket aspirants from this constituency include Maqbool Ali, Razaul Karim, Rathir Ranjan Das, Prab Kumar th and Nilotpal Das. However, over all these persons, the BJP lobby desperately wants Iqbal Hussain to contest on a BJP ticket.

Meanwhile, State BJP general secretary Bhabes Kalita visited the constituency in December and after taking into consideration all the stake holders, forwarded a three member panel to the State BJP to take the fil call. However, the lobby led by Paul is now hell bent to give candidature to Iqbal Hussain.

It may be recalled that, Iqbal Hussain is the same person who is best known for his crimil background and for having close ties with infamous car thief Anil Chauhan. It may also be recalled that Iqbal Hussain had to take anticipatory bail to avoid being arrested when Chauhan was arrested last year.

It may be mentioned that in 2011, Iqbal Hussain contested from South Karimganj on TMC ticket and lost to Congress leader Siddique Ahmed.
