BARD funded projects languishing

Only 85 of 400 road & bridge projects completed in State

Guwahati, Nov 29: A majority of the projects sanctioned under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund of BARD in the State are incomplete and languishing.

Official records say only 85 of the total 400 projects - bridges and roads - sanctioned since 2010-11 have been completed till August this year.

In 2010-11, 16 schemes were sanctioned - ten bridges and six roads. While all the bridge projects have been completed, three of the six road projects are still languishing.

Similarly, only six of the 102 bridges sanctioned in 2011-12 have been completed. In that year, 49 road projects were also sanctioned of which only six have been completed so far, the report, stated.

In 2013-14, 93 road schemes and 42 bridges were sanctioned. Of them, only five bridges and four road projects have been completed.

176 road projects and seven bridges were sanctioned in 2014-15. Of them only seven road schemes and one bridge has been completed.

The schemes are executed by the Public Works department through contractors.

The completion rate of the BARD funded projects have been appallingly poor, unlike other projects executed by the PWD.
