BCPL: 136 plastic processing industries identified

Dibrugarh, Sept 12: Reviewing the progress of the Assam Gas Cracker project today, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that 136 plastic processing industries have been indentified across the length and breadth of the region as offshoots of the mega project.

"These industries will be beneficial in giving rightful vocations to local youths," he said.

Gogoi also emphasized on a joint venture between the Government of Assam and BCPL in harnessing the benefits of downstream industries to mitigate unemployment.

On Saturday, the Chief minister visited Lepetkata and inspected the much-awaited Gas Cracker Project being set up by Brahmaputra Crackers and Polymers Limited.

Gogoi then attended a review meeting and assessed the implementation with top officials of the project. Taking note of its progress, he asked all the officials to achieve completion of the project soon for the benefit of all. The project has achieved an overall physical progress of 99.78 per cent.

The Assam Gas Cracker Project, the first ever petrochemical project in entire Northeast, is expected to generate scope for substantial investments in setting up a slew of downstream plastic processing industries.
