Bhumi Adhikar Sangram Samittee to contest elections

GUWAHATI, Sept 7: Stating that the Tarun Gogoi-led State government has deprived 25 lakh families of the State from land rights, the Bhumi Adhikar Sangram Samittee Asom on Monday said that they will be fielding candidates in the upcoming 2016 Assembly elections.

President of the organization Prabin Jyoti Kalita said, “At a time when the Tarun Gogoi government and the Union government is giving away Assam’s land to Bangladesh the same government has termed the landless indigenous people of the State as illegal settlers.”

Though the organization has not yet announced the constituencies they would filed candidates in, they maintained that the government doesn’t value democratic protests instead it takes a hostile stand against peaceful demonstrations.

Stating that the landless people will occupy Dispur by participating in the democratic election process, Kalita said that the government is misleading the people by diving in the me of caste religion and language.
