BJP-AIUDF nexus out in open, says Gogoi

By Our Staff Reporter

Guwahati, March 13: Questioning the ratiole behind the AIUDF fielding candidates in Upper Assam seats where the party has scant chances of winning, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said it exposed the "secret understanding" between the AIUDF and the BJP.

"I have been saying it all along and it has been proved now. Else, why will the AIUDF field candidates in seats like Jorhat, Golaghat, Khumtai etc. The AIUDF is putting candidates to help the BJP," Gogoi alleged.

The AIUDF had yesterday med 16 candidates it will field in the first phase of the upcoming Assam assembly elections. It is fielding candidates in Khumtai, Jorhat, Amguri, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, oboisa and Golaghat apart from minority-domited seats in lower Assam and Barak Valley.

"In seats like Jorhat, Golaghat, Khumtai etc, the AIUDF has no chance of winning… yet it is fielding candidates just to help the BJP… that is its sole motive," Gogoi said.

He said the 'secret relationship' between the AIUDF and the BJP is nothing new.

"It has been there since long. To promote his business interests, AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal has been helping the BJP," he said.

Gogoi also said the BJP, AIUDF, AGP and BPF have come together for the elections for vested interests. "They are opportunistic. They have no concern for public interest. The unholy nexus will never benefit the people," Gogoi added.
