BJP counters Congress's contention on Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS)

SHILLONG, Sept 15: BJP spokesperson and the saffron party’s in-charge of Meghalaya Nalin Kohli on Saturday countered State Opposition leader Dr Mukul Sangma’s contention that the Centre’s health scheme - Ayushman Bharat Yojana is a replica of the State’s Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) initiated by the then Congress-led Meghalaya United Alliance government.

Kohli’s argument was that if Dr Sangma thought that he has done a good job for the people of Meghalaya then why his government did not come back to power.

“I very rarely believe that people vote out governments who work for them. So when an argument is taken that you are doing good work and people don’t acknowledge that one wonders the great work was for whom, for your cadre, for your leader or for the people,” Kohli said.

The BJP leader also stated that the Congress leader was not able to communicate to the people of Meghalaya and through him to the rest of the country about all the good work that they were doing. Last week, Dr Sangma had alleged that the NDA government’s ambitious healthcare scheme, Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Scheme (AB-NHPS) was replicated from Meghalaya’s – Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS). “Even the bidding document is replicated from the MHIS scheme,” the Meghalaya Opposition leader had said.
