BJP declares Sarbanda as CM candidate

By Our Staff Reporter

Guwahati, Jan 28: Getting on to aggressive poll mode, the BJP today declared Sarbanda Sonowal as its chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming assembly elections.

The decision was taken at a parliamentary committee meeting of the party held at New Delhi. It was attended by senior leaders, including Prime Minister rendra Modi and party president Amit Shah.

"The parliamentary committee has decided that the Assam assembly elections will be contested under the leadership of Sarbanda Sonowal," senior leader JP dda told reporters later.

Discussions were held regarding five states where polls are due this year, but decision was taken only for Assam.

"We are confident of forming the government in Assam under Sonowal's leadership," dda added.

An elated Sonowal said he would taken along all party workers and reach out to the people seeking their support.

The BJP's change in strategy came after the drubbing in Bihar elections where it desisted from declaring any chief ministerial candidate.
