BJP hits back, says 'where there are infiltrators, there;s Congress'

Guwahati, Dec 12: As the Congress went hammer and tongs at it, the BJP today hit back, questioning why the Congress chose Barpeta “where there is a good chunk of illegal migrant population” for Rahul Gandhi’s rally instead of places like Dibrugarh, Guwahati and Silchar.

“Barpeta is a den of illegal migrants. Wherever there are illegal migrants, you will find the Congress there,” BJP general secretary Ram Madhav told reporters on the sidelines of an interaction with social media volunteers.

Hitting out at Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Madhav said, “He is asking what rendra Modi has done in fifteen months. I want to ask what has Tarun Gogoi done in the last fifteen years. He should see the progress made by the BJP-ruled states,” he said.

Madhav said the Congress is jittery to fight the elections on its own strength and as such wants an alliance with the AIUDF, AGP and even the Left parties which have little presence.

The BJP leader said Gogoi wants to continue to be the Chief Minister till his son Gaurav is “eligible” for the post.

State BJP president Sarbanda Sonowal took exception to Gogoi’s remarks in which he compared the Congress-BJP fight with the Saraighat battle. “It is a sheer disrespect shown to the historic battle. The Chief Minister should first set right his knowledge of history. His statements are only amusing the people.”

Sonowal said the Congress is cosying up to the AIUDF which was born with the support of fifteen fundamentalists groups in the aftermath of the scrapping of the IM(DT) Act.
