Haflong, May 31: The BJP is all set to form the NC Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) again, following the switching over of four Congress members of the autonomous council to the saffron party recently.

Earlier in October 2015, as many as 18 Congress executive members and MACs had joined the BJP and subsequently the NCHAC was taken over by the saffron party with Niranjan Hojai as its Chief Executive Member.

Three months later, the BJP was reduced to minority in the House, with its numbers coming down to six as some of its members switched allegiance back to the Congress. The council was then taken over by the Congress.

But after the BJP's landslide victory in the State assembly elections, four Congress MACs - mely Deboprasad Hojai, Devojit Bathari, Hailamkuambe Jeme and Denis Teron joined the BJP, giving the party majority in the 30-member council.

Though there are reports that Kulendra Daolagupu, a Congress MAC, has also joined the BJP, the Dima Hasao BJP district committee spokeperson Samarjeet Haflongbar said that the matter is yet to be filized.

Haflongbar also said that "honoring the Governor's notice and showing respect to democracy", the BJP is now all set to form the council.

Even as a few other Congress members, including the Chief Executive Member Debojeet Thaosen joined the AGP, Haflongbar said that there is no alliance between the BJP and AGP in the district.

The BJP is yet to decide on the new CEM.

The strength of the Congress in the present council has been reduced to two.

The BJP MACs have submitted a representation to the NCHAC chairman Ngamrothang Hmar with a request to summon an immediate special session so that the BJP can form the council by proving its majority in the House.
