SIVASAGAR/JOYSAGAR: Barely a few days before the panchayat elections, a blast by suspected ULFA (I) militants at Demow in Sivasagar district killed two persons, besides leaving a woman injured.

Sources said that Kamal Agarwalla was receiving extortion demands in the name of the anti-talk faction of the ULFA.

Top officials from the district administration and police rushed to the spot.

Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who is in New Delhi, strongly condemned the act and directed the DGP to take immediate steps to nab the miscreants. He has also expressed sympathy to the bereaved family of the deceased.
