Bongaigaon/KOKRAJHAR, Sept 20: Stepping up its movement for a separate state, the All Bodo Students Union today set a deadline of October 10 for the government to respond.

"If the government does not come to any conclusion regarding the formation of a separate Bodoland state within October 10, then the economy of the Northeast will totally collapse," ABSU president Pramod Boro warned at a rally at Kajalgaon on Sunday.

Boro said that the Bodo people will take to the streets after October 10 and block all roads connecting the Northeast with other parts of India.

"Whether it is the railway or roadway, we will block everything. We will sp all communications between the Northeast and rest of India," he said.

The rally was also addressed by prominent leaders like former MPs Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary and Urkhaw Gwra Brahma. It was organized by ABSU, People's Joint Action Committee for Boroland Movement and tiol Democratic Front of Bodoland (Progressive).

Addressing the gathering, Boro said that separate Bodoland was the birth right of the Bodo people. "We can never compromise on this issue. Already the government has played several political games with us. Many Bodos have sacrificed their lives fighting for this right. We won't wait anymore. The government has to resolve this issue now," Boro said. Boro, however, indicated that the ABSU is keen for a discussion with the government on the issue.
