Bodoland has become an arms-free zone: BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary

KOKRAJHAR: Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Hagrama Mohilary on Friday said that the BTC region could become an arms-free zone as the arms culture has come to an end after the four factions of NDFB came to the negotiation table.

He further said that “though we were part of the coalition government with the Congress earlier for long yet we did not receive the expected support; but within four years with the BJP, everything has become a reality and the BTC is now getting the maximum of opportunities. He also said that the BJP Government has assured many things and as per their commitments, the Central Institute of Technology (CIT) Kokrajhar has become a Deemed University, a medical college has come up, the Rupsi Airport is about to be inaugurated and many developmental projects are being taken up.

Mohilary further said that they will give equal respect to the genuine grievances of people belonging to all communities and with the new accord; the other communities should not have any apprehension. He assured that all the communities will live together with equal dignity and respect. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for taking the initiative for bringing all the factions of the NDFB to the negotiation table and signing the new peace accord with them.

The BTC Chief also stressed on the need for proper rehabilitation of all the leaders and cadres of the NDFB; and withdrawal of cases against them. He also said that in the 2021 State Assembly elections, the BJP combine will come back to power and in the Council polls, the BPF will retain power.

ABSU president Promod Boro also said that the new Bodo accord was possible due to the strong initiative of Modi. He further said that the family members of the NDFB factions have been waiting for their sons and daughters to come back from the jungle. Boro added that “today is the day of thanksgiving ceremony to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and others for taking such bold steps to usher in peace.”
