KOKRAJHAR, May 25: The Bodoland Students’ Union (BSU) has congratulated Sarbanda Sonowal who was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Assam and his cabinet ministers. The union hoped that the new government would take a tough stand against the illegal influx from Bangladesh which had posed a serious threat to the existence of indigenous communities. The secretary of the BSU, Khrwmdao Brahma in a statement said that the people of Assam had tremendous faith and confidence in Sonowal to take the State to new heights. He hoped that the new government under the leadership of Sarbanda Sonowal would create records of development and expected that the genuine problems of Assam such as infiltration, unemployment and flood problems would be solved quickly. He said the BTC shared the boundary with West Bengal and was also not far from Bangladesh. The continuous influx from Bangladesh had become a serious threat for the people of BTC and in that case the BSU urged the new government to carry out the updating of NRC as early as possible. The BSU also expressed its happiness for inducting two members from Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), Pramilla Rani Brahma and Rihon Daimary in Sonowal’s cabinet. The union further hoped that more cabinet ministers would be inducted in the coming days.
