BTAD polls in last part of March

GUWAHATI, January 19: After the completion of the civic polls in the State, elections to the BTAD will be held. This was decided by the Assam State Election Commission on Monday. The civic polls in the State will be held on February 9. The State Election Commission is planning to schedule the 3rd BTAD elections before the tenure of the present council ends on April 23 this year. With a view to discuss the various aspects related to the elections, the Election Commission on Monday called an all–party meeting which was presided over by HN Bora, State Election Commissioner.  He briefed about the scheduling of elections in the last part of March so that the new council takes over before Bohag Bihu in early April. The meeting was attended by SN Singh, IGP (Law & Order), Milton Queah, Joint Secretary (WPTBC), Madan Chandra Deka, Joint Secretary (Revenue), Dr Anupam Kr Roy, Principal Secretary (BTC) along with representatives from different political parties.  The parties gave their suggestions in regard to ensuring free and fair polls to the 40 constituencies of BTAD.
