GUWAHATI, Dec 22: The Gauhati High Court has ruled that the centuries old famous ‘Bulbuli fight’ of Hajo will continue like before.

It may be mentioned that on January 13, 2015, the ADC of Kamrup district, following instructions from the deputy commissioner, sent a letter to Hajo Haigrib Madhab Mandir, asking them to stop the practice of Bulbuli fights following an order of the Supreme Court in which it ordered the practice of bull fight in Jallikattu of Tamil du to stop. The Supreme Court order was in regard to a petition filed by the Animal Welfare Board. Later, a organisation of Assam working on wildlife conservation, included the me of Bulbuli fight hosted by the Haigrib Madhab Mandir in Hajo on the occasion of Magh Bihu.

This year, following instruction by the district administration, the Bulbuli fight was not hosted in Hajo. However, Shiva Prasad Sarma Doloi, a member of the magement committee of the temple, approached the Supreme Court who advised him to move the Gauhati High Court in this regard.

Following this, Doloi, filed a writ petition (WPT 5228/15) at the Gauhati High Court, and hearing his petition, the High Court on Tuesday said that the centuries old traditiol Bulbuli fight of Hajo will continue.
