Guwahati, January 25: The Cadian government will launch an outreach programme in the Northeast this week, in a bid to woo students from the region to that country for undergraduate courses.

Currently, there are 46,000 Indian students studying in Cada. In 2013, it issued 21,000 student VISAs.

Education officers and representatives from 16 Cadian universities and colleges will hold interactive sessions in Guwahati and Shillong, during which students and guardians can find out more about undergraduate courses, admissions, application processes, scholarships, study and work options, visa procedures and career opportunities in the North American country. The programme aims to provide an opportunity for students aspiring for a foreign degree.

The Cadian team will be led by Ivy Lerner Frank, First Secretary and Trade Commissioner – Education, High Commission of Cada. She will head a delegation of 16 of Cada’s leading colleges and universities which will showcase higher education opportunities during the ‘Undergraduate Education Outreach to Northeast India’ programme. This unique initiative is organised by the High Commission of Cada in India in association with the Indo–Cadian Business Chamber (ICBC) and it focuses on promoting Cada as an education destition for undergraduates.

This visit by universities is a part of their three–city education outreach tour which will start from January 27 in Guwahati and will also cover Kolkata and Shillong.

“It will eble students and guardians to meet with representatives of Cadian institutions and learn about Cadian education programmes. Over the course of this event, attendees can take part in interactive sessions on a range of subjects such as admissions, visa procedures, and career opportunities,” an official in the Cadian embassy said.

Sessions will take place in local institutions, with a view to bringing interested students together in one venue. The focus will be on Class XI and XII students. Cadian immigration officials will make presentations on Study Permit Applications, Post Graduate Work Permit Programme and Immigration Policies.
