Candidate for post himself was in selection committee?

State of affairs in the education department in Assam

GUWAHATI, Sept 5: Can a person be one of the selectors to select his/her own candidature? This has happened in Assam, and that too, in the Education Department! This is just an instance that speaks volumes of the oddities in the Education Department in the State.

The All Asom Goriya Yuva-Chatra Parishad (AAGYCP) has alleged that in the me of appointment, the acting principal of Rangiya Arabic College, Shamsul Haque Saikia has opened a shop window, for selling jobs. AAGYCP spokesperson Matiur Rahman and vice president Ajijur Rahman have alleged that the acting principal of the college has not appointed candidates of lecturer from the merit list. “Taking money from candidates, the acting principal has appointed candidates whose mes haven’t figured in the merit list,” Haque Saikia and Rahman alleged.

“Strange it may sound but it is true that the college’s acting principal Shamsul Haque Saikia himself was a candidate for the post on MM lecturer. He was, at the same time, one among the  members of the selection board. Earlier, he was a lecturer of the intermediate classes. How come a candidate for a post be a member of the selection board to select him/her?” they questioned.

The college, according to Haque Saikia and Rahman, had three MM lecturers and two FM lecturers. “Home come Director of Madrassa Education Geeta Sarma select Haque Saikia as the acting principal of the college that already has three MM lecturers and two FM lecturers?” they questioned, and added: “There’s yet another strange thing! The chairman of the selection committee was MP Bhubaneswar Kalita, who is also the chairman of the maging committee of the college. The interview of the candidates has, however, been conducted in the absence of Kalita.”

The Parishad has demanded of the authority concerned to institute a high-level inquiry into the appointment fiasco. The Parishad is going to stage a dhar in front of the Rangiya SDO office on September 9, 2015 in protest against the fiasco.
