Case filed against Chandan Sarkar

Minister publicly admits stealing

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, February 2: The BJP, the AGP, the AASU and the Krishak Sramik Unyan Parishad (KSUP) on Monday came down heavily upon Chandan Sarkar, the newly inducted minister in the Tarun Gogoi–led State cabinet, for his alleged involvement in theft of PDS items like rice and sugar, when he was an MLA.

On Monday, the KSUP also filed a case against the minister at Dispur police station.

Talking to reporters here, KSUP president Pradip Kalita said, “There are many such allegations against Chandan Sarkar. He should be dropped from the ministry and arrested immediately.”

Sarkar also recently admitted in a public meeting that he was involved in such cases in the past. “What is the problem in arresting Sarkar when he admitted his wrongdoings publicly? Why is he still serving as minister?” Kalita said.

The KSUP president also threatened to start an agitation against the State government if it doesn’t remove Sarkar from the ministry by February 5.

It requested Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to act against such a corrupt person who is holding a ministerial position.
