Cash seizure shows enormity of threat to polls

GUWAHATI: Does Assam really roll in money? Ever since the notification for the general election has been issued, money is being recovered in various areas in the State almost every day. Sleuths of the Income Tax, Election Commission officials and officials from district administrations in the State have been recovering cash and liquor. The huge amounts of cash being recovered in the State baffle all and sundry. So far, whopping Rs 7.84 crore cash was recovered from various areas in the State. Cash is not the only seizure in the election-bound State. As much as 1.17 lakh litres of liquor has also been seized in the State during this period.

When money and liquor tend to glut the electorates in the State, is free-and-fair poll possible? This is something to keep tabs on.
