CBI launches raid in connection with ONGC Scam

SIVASAGAR/JOYSAGAR: A 38-member team led by a DSP of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided offices, godowns, houses and business establishments of high-profile businessmen and ONGC contractors of Sivasagar in connection with the inquiry into the multi-crore ONGC scam. The raid was conducted in the trail of a case that was registered under Sections 120B, 420, 409, 477A of the IPC and Sections 13(2) and 13(1)(D) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The CBI team conducted raids in Phukan Nagar, Dorikapara Nawjan village storage of a local ONGC contractor, the office of a prominent local businessman at Station Chariali of the town, M/S Udipta Energy and Equipment Services Pvt. Ltd, Durga Hardware and Dalmia Mangilal & Co office on BG Road of the town. Sources said that there were allegations of corruption amounting to several crores of rupees in Sivasagar and Nazira ONGC. A large quantity of chemicals and iron digging rig pipes supplied to ONGC by some contractors were allegedly of poor standard.

The ONGC Dehradun authorities handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI and thereafter the high-level CBI team started the second phase of investigation in Sivasagar town on Thursday.
