CBSE breather to class XII students, offers 'remedial measures'

New Delhi, March 16: Students stumped by the Mathematics paper in the Class 12 CBSE exams may breathe a sigh of relief. The Central Board of Secondary Education today took note of the feedback it said it received from various stakeholders and promised remedial measures before evaluation of the answer sheets. The students complained that the exam paper - held on March 14 - was lengthy and tough and are equally fearful of the evaluation.

"The feedback received from various stakeholders including students, subject teachers, examiners will be placed before the committee of subject experts and the board will take remedial measures before evaluation," the CBSE said in a statement issued today.

Hundreds of anxious students and their parents have started petitions on Change.org appealing to the CBSE to show leniency in evaluating the Mathematics paper that concluded on March 14. Over 100 petitions have been floated online and over 11,000 students have signed these petitions.

The issue has even has even found reverberations in the Parliament. Earlier, Union Minister Venkaiah idu had stated it as a matter a concern and said that he will convey it to HRD minister Smriti Irani.

"This is a matter concerning students and their future. It deserves inquiry. I will convey it to HRD minister," the minister had added.

"There are two issues here," idu said. "Certain questions were very tough and even bright students couldn't answer them effectively. Media said some questions were leaked and even sold."

Congress's KC Venugopal and RSP's NK Premachandran had raised the issue yesterday. "I urge the government to look into the exam and take necessary steps," Venugopal had said.

Meanwhile, refuting the allegations that the mathematics paper of Class XII Boards on Monday was available on WhatsApp on Sunday night, the MHRD said, "Coincidence cannot be called leakage. Only one or two questions in the alleged leaked paper were similar to that of NCERT textbook which is not for the first time and it does not amount to paper being leaked."

The CBSE Class 12 mathematics exam on Monday left students in tears, with most of them claiming they couldn't complete it on time as it was lengthy.

The students said the question paper was similar to the one leaked on Sunday. "After exam, some students showed an identical question paper in their phones," said a class 12 student from Chakradharpur.

Parents have demanded the CBSE to re-conduct the Class XII Mathematics examition after an "unexpectedly tough" question paper left many candidates anxious.
