By Our Staff Reporter

Guwahati, Feb 3: Union Skill Development minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy today said that the Central government will be facilitating intertiol placements for skilled Northeastern youths and provide support for those working outside.

"Our government is focused on skill development of Northeast youths. There are still hundreds of blocks in the region which don't have an ITI and it is the direction of Prime Minister Modi that there should be an ITI in every block," Rudy told a press conference here.

He said his ministry will facilitate intertiol placements for trained youths of the region and also engage in hand-holding for the youths working outside the region.

On the issue of migration from the region for work, Rudy said, "The PM is concerned that migration is taking place from a region which has so much potential. The PM has instructed all ministries to invest in the development of the region."

He added that the PM has also directed setting up a network of skill development institutes in the region and train the youth for increased employability.

Admitting that unemployment is a major issue in Assam, he said that it is because of the policies of the previous governments that the State still has 23 lakh unemployed youths.

Rudy, also the MoS for Parliamentary Affairs, said that he was hopeful that the GST bill will be passed in the Budget session of Parliament.

Talking to reporters here, he said, "I hope and pray that the GST bill is passed in the coming session."

Pointing that the GST was the "baby of the Congress", he said it was a good legislation with years of consultation having gone into it, and it will impart ease in doing business.

"The day the GST bill is passed, the country's GDP will go up by one per cent overnight," he added.

On the Congress preventing its passage, Rudy said, "It is unfortute that the Congress is preventing its passage by thinking that the BJP and Modi will be credited with the bill."

On the ensuing State assembly elections, Rudy said there is an "air of change in Assam" where people are looking for an "altertive".  Praising Sarbanda Sonowal as a very successful minister, Rudy said: "He is holding wide ranging consultations for resolving problems in the sports sector. The Prime Minister too has praised him," Rudy said.
