Clause 6 of Assam Accord: Committee To Hear Opinions From Saturday

GUWAHATI: The 14-member high-level committee for implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord is going to hear opinions from newspaper editors, organizations, parties, individuals and others from Saturday, in phases.

According to top-level sources in the high-level committee, around 500 of the 1,050 memoranda received by the committee are out of sync with what is sought by the committee. And most of such out of sync memoranda have been received from the Barak Valley, mainly from Cachar. Issues like inclusion into the NRC, issuance of Aadhaar cards, erasing doubtful tag of ‘D’ voters, issuance of land documents etc which were not sought by the committee have been raised.

According to the sources, while around 639 memoranda were received by hand, around 400 were received through email, and some by post or courier services. On Saturday, the high-level committee is going to seek opinions from newspaper editors in Guwahati. It will hear the opinions of literary bodies, political parties, non-political organizations, students and youth organizations, noted Assamese personalities and others in phases. Apart from Guwahati, the hearing will also be held in four other zones in the State – Kokrajhar, Silchar, Dibrugarh and Tezpur.
