'Complete JNNURM water supply scheme by December'

GUWAHATI, June 16: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who also holds the portfolio of Guwahati Development Department, today asked the officials implementing various water supply schemes in Guwahati to complete phase I of the water supply scheme currently underway in the city under Jawharlal Nehru tiol Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) by December 15 this year.

The Chief Minister today reviewed the progress of works of various water supply schemes in the city at a meeting in the State Secretariat with officials of Guwahati Jal Board.     

The review meeting made it clear that by 2018, 50 lakh people of Guwahati will get potable water. According to sources, the phase I of JICA-assisted Guwahati Water Supply Project is set to be completed by March 2016 and phase II by February 2017, both in south central part of Guwahati. The water supply project that covers North Guwahati is also set to be over by February 2017.

The ADB-funded Guwahati Water Supply Project is expected to be completed by December 2018.
