GUWAHATI, Feb 23: Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Welfare and State BJP president Sarbanda Sonowal has said that the Congress and the AIUDF have been trying their best to hoodwink the people of Assam to believe that they are bête noire to each other even as they are interlly one, in two different avatars exterlly.

Talking to newsmen at the Lokapriya Gopith Bordoloi Intertiol (LGBI) Airport on the outskirts of Guwahati today, Sonowal said: “Since its inception the AUIDF has been working for the protection and interests of foreigners from Bangladesh, not for the indigenous people of the State. The Congress and the AIUDF opt to sold each other in public only to make the people of the State believe that they are bêtes noire to each other. However, they can’t hoodwink the people of the State anymore. Everybody knows that the Congress and the AIUDF are one and the same, and they have been fighting elections together interlly. They’re very good at acting, and for them the entire State is a theatre. If the Congress really feels that there has been development in the State in the past 15 years that has kept the faith of the people of the State on the party intact, why should the party put hoardings here and there in the State? They want to make the people of the State believe them as the people don’t believe them. There has been no development at all in tea garden and sar areas in the State.”

Sonowal further  said: “AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal is not even aware of the contribution of the indigenous Muslims of the State into the formation of the 800-year-old greater Assamese society in Assam.”

“During our February 21 padayatra at Titabor, Chief Mnister Tarun Gogoi’s LAC, the people there vented their anger. They said that they have no potable water. Their condition is pathetic. The Panchayati Raj system in the Chief Minister’s LAC has been overshadowed by corruption. This has been corroborated by the instances of elected people’s representatives of the Congress had to be behind bars. Everybody says the Titabor, being the LAC of the Chief Minister, will be a developed one, and it had been the criteria for him to be the winner in three successive elections. The ground reality, however, is just the opposite one,” Sonowal said, and added: “Let alone development, Titabor subdivision has even failed to be a complete in itself even as the Chief Minister has made it to the State Assembly for three consecutive terms from this LAC.”

On the support base of the ruling party fraying in the State, Sonowal said: “The Congress’ wave is over. It’s a frustrated party. The people have nothing to be known on the Congress. The AIUDF design is set to destroy the State. Ours is a fight to save the greater Assamese society, including people of both the Barak and the Brahmaputra valleys, from the design of the Congress and the AIUDF, and we welcome all those who want to join us in this august task.”
