GUWAHATI, June 23: The AGP today said that the Congress and the BJP have been conspiring to put hurdles in the NRC update process through the introduction of fresh conditions that are not in the Assam Accord.

In a statement issued to the press today, AGP general secretary Durga Das Boro said: "Present State Forest Minister Etuwa Munda, two former ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma and Ardhendu Dey and the BJP at the Centre have been out to kill the very spirit of the Assam Accord in order to provide Indian citizenship to a large number of foreigners who entered the State after the all-accepted cut-off date - March 25, 1971. Violating the SC order, they are conspiring to give people, who entered Assam after the cut-off date, Indian citizenship by framing them as refugees based on their faith. The present Assam  Forest Minister and the two former ministers also made the true intention of the Congress to put hurdles in the NRC update process in the State crystal through their recent statements. The NRC should only contain the mes of indigenous people of Assam, and not of anyone who came to Assam after the cut-off date."

Meanwhile, the AGP said that Assam Governor PB Acharya has 'lowered the dignity' of the status of the Governor by acting like a political leader on the corruption of the Congress government.

Meanwhile, the party condoled the death of actor, director and producer Robin Neog at a meeting attended by president Atul Bora, former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, and other party leaders in the city today.
