Congress, BJP stage dhars across State

GUWAHATI, Dec 30: Congress and BJP workers staged demonstrations across the State, trading charges and counter charges.

BJP workers, who demonstrated at the district head offices, demanded expulsion of Nilomoni Sen Deka from the Congress for "dishonouring the dignity of women" and Prime Minister rendra Modi.

Hundreds of BJP workers staged a demonstration at Mahabir Park in Fancy Bazar.

State BJP president Sarbanda Sonowal demanded a written apology from Deka and also questioned the role of police, which, he said, was acting at the behest of the Congress government. "Even after we filed an FIR, police did not take any action on Congress members who attacked us," he said.

The Congress also protested against the Monday's "attack on Rajiv Bhavan" by BJP supporters. They also demanded an apology from BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma for "masterminding" the attack on the State Congress headquarters.

Congress workers staged demonstrations in the district and sub divisiol headquarters demanding immediate arrest of Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging his role in the GS Road clash on Monday where many Congress and BJP workers sustained injuries.

APCC president Anjan Dutta, who joined the Congress protest at Dighalipukhuri, demanded immediate arrest of Himanta Biswa Sarma alleging that he has been trying to damage not only the Congress but the entire Assamese society. Dutta also referred to the old crimil records of the former cabinet minister.
