Guwahati, Nov 16: After days of dilly-dallying, the Congress on Monday expelled its nine legislators who recently joined the BJP.

The State Congress president approved the decision of the executive committee of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) to expel the nine MLAs on the basis of the recommendation by its discipliry action committee for a period of six years for insubordition, anti-party activities, indiscipline as well as violation of the provision of Indian tiol Congress Committees by-laws, a communiqué from the party stated.

"The nine MLAs after this order are no longer member of the Indian tiol Congress Party and they have lost their status to become an MLA for their anti-party activities which impliedly attract the provision of 10th Schedule of the Constitution of India," it stated.

The party president has also asked the legislature party leader and chief whip to lodge a complaint before the Speaker.
