Congress hatching plot to elimite me: Mohilary

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

KOKRAJHAR, Oct 14: Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary on Wednesday alleged that the Congress government in Assam is hatching a conspiracy to elimite him to capture power in BTC.

Talking to media persons after the end of today's autumn session of the BTC legislative assembly, Mohilary alleged that the Congress government in Assam had withdrawn his PSOs, house guards and escorts from his residence and official residence on Tuesday evening for unknown reasons. He said just six security guards were left. He also said he asked the SP to withdraw all six security personnel left in his residence as it was nothing but an insult and accordingly, the remaining guards have also been withdrawn. “Now I am alone. There are neither PSOs nor house guards in my residence. There can be some conspiracy of political murder. If any untoward incident happens to me then the government of Assam will be responsible for that,” the BTC chief alleged while adding that the Congress is trying to elimite him. He said there was no reason to withdraw his security guards except to target his life.

Mohilary alleged that the Congress government could arrest him as they arrested BTC EM Mono Kr Brahma and MLA Pradip Brahma earlier. “The Congress government will not be satisfied with just arresting me, it wants to elimite me,” he alleged.

On the arrest of Dima Hasao Executive Member (EM) Jewel Garlosa, Mohilary said Garlosa was arrested as he joined the BJP. He also said the Congress had no right to arrest Garlosa. Describing the withdrawal of his security guards as a deliberate attempt on his life, he said that now there is no protection to his life.

The deputy chief of BTC, Kampa Borgoyary in the assembly session said the withdrawal of security guards and PSOs from the chief and deputy chief was a matter of concern. The law and order situation was improving to some extent but the BTC region was still not free from undesired incidents, he said, adding that in such a situation, the withdrawal of security guards from the leaders of the council would deter them from going out and reaching out to the masses.

Borgoyary said the chief of BTC was equivalent to a cabinet minister of the State and the deputy chief, EM, MCLA and officers too should be given security cover.  He appealed to the governments of India and Assam to look into the matter seriously and called upon the government to reconsider providing security to the BTC chief.

The chief convener of the United People’s Party (UPP), Rwngwra rzary from the opposition bench said that the withdrawal of security guards by the government of Assam was’ unfortute’. He said there should be security cover to work in the field as the law and order situation in BTC region had not fully improved. He appealed to the government to reconsider its decision.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday evening Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter and asked Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia to inquire into the chronology of events leading to the reduction of security cover of the BTC Chief. He also asked the Chief Secretary to take action against the offender. It has been learnt that following instructions from the Chief Minister, Mohilary’s security has been restored to its earlier position.
