Fate of 9 rebel MLAs

Guwahati, Nov 11: The Congress may initiate disqualification proceedings against the nine rebel legislators who joined the BJP recently, State Congress president Anjan Dutta said today.

"We will wait for some more time. If they do not resign as legislators, we will approach the Speaker pleading him to initiate disqualification proceedings," he said.

On Rahul Gandhi's visit to the State next month, Dutta said the Congress vice president will address a rally at Khapara on November 28. "We will sound the poll bugle at the rally," he said.

Gandhi will also interact with students from tribal and SC communities at Guwahati on November 27, the first day of his visit.

Buoyed by the "unexpected" results in Bihar, an emboldened Congress has made extensive preparations to ensure that Gandhi's visit is a grand success.

Tomorrow, the Chief Minister will chair a meeting with senior party leaders to discuss the preparations for Gandhi's visit. Office-bearers of the party will meet again on Friday to deliberate on the preparations.

Dutta said the party has initiated a micro-magement programme at the booth level to strengthen the party's grassroot base. The programme will conclude on November 30.
