Congress pours scorn on Modi's Acche Din

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, May 20: Coming down heavily on the rendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre for failing to bring in Acche Din and its U-turn on most of its poll promises which the party made earlier, Sharmistha Mukherjee, chief spokesperson and communication in-charge, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee and tiol media panelist, All India Congress Committee (AICC), said the Prime Minister has failed on all fronts so far, except making tours to 18 countries till date.

Addressing reporters as part of the AICC’s tionwide campaign to expose the BJP-led Central government, Sharmistha, daughter of President Prab Mukherjee on Wednesday, said here, “During his recent Chi visit, Prime Minister rendra Modi was busy clicking selfies. He offered e-visas to the Chinese but didn’t bother to raise the Aruchal Pradesh issue with Beijing. This is really unfortute.”

On the land swap deal with Bangladesh, Sharmistha said, “Before coming to power, rendra Modi promised people that not a single inch of Assam’s land would be given to Bangladesh as part of the land agreement which was inked by the then UPA government at the Centre with Dhaka. But after the BJP came to power, it passed the same bill in Parliament without changing a single word. It simply reflects the dual standard of the party.”

She further said the fund cut decision of the present Central government for different public welfare schemes in Assam and other Northeastern States would hamper the development of the landlocked region. “With the reduction of Central funds, Assam will now face an additiol fincial burden of Rs 7,000 crore per annum,” she added.

On the issue of deportation of illegal tiols living in Assam to their countries of origin, Sharmistha said, “Before the BJP came to power, it clearly stated that all illegal tiols living in Assam must go back to their own country but how many of the illegal tiols have been pushed back to their country. Party president Amit Shah said all Hindu immigrants from Bangladesh, who came to Assam, would be given Indian citizenship. What does it mean? The answer is: BJP is playing politics on religious lines.”

The chief spokesperson also slammed Prime Minister Modi for negative campaign on the works done by the previous Central government during his overseas tours. “Political parties and Prime Ministers may come and go but negative campaign on the previous government’s works in foreign tions is really shameful,” she said, adding, “One year has passed, but the Modi government has not yet been able to bring a single penny of huge amount of black money stashed abroad. Foreign investment is also nil in the country.”

Sharmistha praised Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for his works for the development of the State compared to works done by the Prime Minister for the country.
