Congress supporters engage in fisticuffs

Rangia, July 24 : Even as Congress leaders in the State are trying desperately to put a united face and come to the defence of Himanta Biswa Sarma in the wake of the Louis Berger kickback scandal, Sarma's supporters created another unseemly scene in front of AICC general secretary in charge of Assam CP Joshi and APCC president Anjan Dutta at Rangia today. Joshi and Dutta  were on their way to a party meet at Haradutta Biradutta Bhawan when about 200 supporters of Himanta Biswa Sarma handed over a memorandum to CP Joshi with several charges against Rangia MLA Ghashayam Kalita. This infuriated Kalita's supporters who engaged in a pitched battle with Sarma's supporters. The free-for-all got so out of hand that the lbari police had to be called to bring the situation under control.
