Congress to review BTC Accord: Dutta

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, April 2: If the Congress party comes to power after the BTC polls, it will review the historic BTC Accord. This was stated by APCC president Anjan Dutta at Rajiv Bhawan here on Thursday while releasing the party’s BTC poll manifesto.

Dutta said that the party has included its promise to review the BTC Accord in its poll manifesto.

It was stated in the poll manifesto that all care will be taken so that all communities living in BTAD get equal representation in the BTC and the number of seats in the council would be increased if the Congress comes to power there, Dutta said.  The APCC president said, “During the delimitation of constituencies under the BTC in 2003, which was done in a hurried manner, some defects cropped up for which some communities are facing difficulties there. We will rectify the defects if we come to power,” adding, “We will follow the instructions given by the Gauhati High Court on the issue of delimitation of constituencies under the BTC.”

He said the Congress, if it comes to power in the BTC, will take steps so that all Bodos and non-Bodos can live together in peace. “The BTC led by the BPF has failed to fulfill the aspirations of the people living in BTAD areas. Development is a far cry there while corruption and injustice have become part and parcel of the administration,” Dutta added.

He further said that the Rupasi Airport will be developed if it comes to power in BTC.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will be on a two-day visit in BTAD areas from Friday for BTC poll campaign.
