Conspiracy behind the deal, alleges Kokrajhar MP Naba Sarania

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Taking the timing of the Memorandum of Settlement (when the BTC election is barely two months away) signed by the Centre with the NDFB(S) into account, Kokrajhar MP Naba Sarania has termed it as a political conspiracy to give the BTC administration a ‘fresh lease of life’ in the form of an ‘interim administration’.

Addressing a press conference at the Guwahati Press Club minutes before the Centre signed the agreement with the NDFB(S) on Monday, Sarania said, “The NDFB(S) cadres had expressed their interest for such a peace deal earlier also. However, there was no positive move from the government. Why has the government signed the deal in haste when the BTC election is barely two months away? Why haven’t they taken other stakeholders of the BTAD into confidence before signing the agreement? The reason behind this is glaringly visible. The government is well aware of the winds of change in the BTAD. They view the proposed new political party in the State and the changes in the BTAD as major hurdles for their mission 100+ in 2021. The Memorandum of Settlement is thus a political conspiracy to get an extension of the BTC’s term.”

Sarania added, “We’ll keep pursuing our agenda to ensure our rights. We want peace in the BTAD, not instability. We’re dead against discrimination of any sorts between the Bodos and the non-Bodos. Now on, our struggle will be more vigorous. We’ve already moved one step forward towards an alternative political party.”

On the agreement, Sarania said, “It’s something like a region with everything a State or a Union Territory has. It’s like a parallel State or a Union Territory having everything related to legislative, executive and judiciary, seats of MPs in the Rajya Sabha etc.”

Sarania pointed out, “This deal has made us start a new journey towards a new goal. In the latest deal we can see as to what rights the non-Bodos in the BTAD have been deprived of. We may stage a march to Dispur to ensure our rights. This is the right time to test who’re the sympathizers of the deprived and poor in Bodoland.”
