Corona test conducted of Assam cancer patients in Mumbai

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Following an instruction from the Assam Government, corona test of all cancer patients of the State under treatment in Mumbai and their attendants have been conducted on Thursday evening. Three cancer patients of the State testing corona positive in New Delhi has made the State government jittery, and decided to instruct corona test to such patients of the State under treatment in Mumbai. Maharashtra being the corona hotspots in the country, such a move is necessitated.

Since the Government of Assam can't conduct the test on its own, it has instructed the authorities concerned to get the tests conducted by a private laboratory. According to Debasish Sharma, the Joint Resident Commissioner of Assam Bhawan, Navi Mumbai, the swab samples of 202 cancer patients and their attendants of the State were collected and tested by a private laboratory, Thyrocare, at the rate of Rs 2,500 per test against Rs 4,500 per test in private laboratories. The cost of the tests is to be borne by the Assam government.

Sharma said, "Around ten per cent of patients and their attendants couldn't reach Assam Bhawan for the test for various reasons. Their swab samples will also be collected. The results of the tests are awaited."
