‘CPI will Oppose CAB in Parliament’: General Secretary D Raja

NEW DELHI: CPI general secretary D Raja on Friday assured a Congress delegation from Manipur that his party will oppose the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) in the winter session of the Parliament. Raja further said that he will raise the Naga accord too in the Parliament. A 15-member delegation led by former Manipur Chief Minister and CLP Leader Okram Ibobi Singh met Raja at CPI headquarter and sought for his support.

“We have got positive response from D Raja. He assured us that his party will raise the matter in the coming winter session of the Parliament,” said sitting MLA and Congress spokesperson Meghachandra Singh to The Sentinel.

Singh said that they had requested the leader to extend all the possible help to raise the issues in the Parliament, and to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur in the face of the ongoing Naga peace accord.

The delegation from Manipur, lead by Ibobi Singh reached to the national capital on Wednesday to meet al leaders over Naga accord and CAB.

The delegation is also likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

The Manipur Congress leaders will also meet the party President, Sonia Gandhi, to discuss the contentious issue. The team comprises K Govindas, K Meghachandra, Chaltonlien Amo, N Loken, AK Mirabai, TN Haokip, K Ranjit, and Th Lokeshire.

‘We are meeting Congress president Sonia Gandhi over these issues,” said Singh.

Singh said, “At any cost we will never allow the government to pass the CAB… We also want that the government make the contents of the Naga accord public.”
