GUWAHATI, January 28: Dam experts of both the Centre and Assam met at a hotel in Guwahati today to look into the pros and cons of the Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project. The meeting decided to meet again at Gerukamukh within 15 days.

Today’s meeting was held in accordance with the decision taken at the meeting among all stakeholders – the agitating organizations of Assam like the All Assam Students’ Union, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti and others, officials of the Union Power Ministry, dam experts and others – held on December 10 and 11 last year in New Delhi.

Today’s meeting was attended by Assam experts like Dr. Jatin Kalita, Dr. BP Duarah, Dr. Chandan Mahanta and Dr. SP Biswas, and experts deputed by the Union ministry like Prof. ML Sharma, Dr. VK Sharma, AK Sibal and Manoj Tripathy, besides top–level NHPC officials.

Meanwhile, KMSS activists staged protest in front of the hotel when the meeting was underway against the non–inclusion of the demands raised by the agitating organizations at the December 10 and 11 meeting in the record note of the meeting. KMSS publicity secretary Dharya Konwar questioned as to how the Assam experts took part in today’s meeting when the Union ministry was yet to review the demands raised by the agitating organizations.
