Death sentence for rape and murder in Hojai

NAGAON: Hojai District and Session Court on Friday pronounced capital punishment as well as seven years imprisonment and Rs 20,000 cash penalty to the prime accused Krishna Rajgour in connection with a forked case — murder after the rape of a seven-year-old girl in 2017 at Lumding in Hojai district. According to sources, Krishna alias Sagor was staying as a housekeeper at a local resident of no 2 Sashtigaon village under Lumding police station and on February 5, 2017 in the absence of her family members, he took out the minor daughter of his landlord to Lumding market for a walk and killed her following rape. Later, he packed the body with a blanket and threw it into dense forest at Lumding. Following the sensational incident, he was absconding.

Lumding police later registered a case under Sections 201, 302 and 363 and started an investigation and on March 11 March, 2017 police apprehended him from Dimapur in Nagaland. Subsequently, on the basis of his statement, police on March 14 recovered the body of the victim from Lumding forest.
