STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Leader of Opposition, Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia has asked the Director General of Police (DGP), Assam, to take up a suo moto case against Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his alleged “communal speeches”. In a letter to the DGP, CLP leader Saikia said that Sarma “has been repeatedly delivering communal speeches at a time when there are protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill across the State.” He alleged that “it would have an adverse effect on the masses”. Saikia further pointed out, “By calling for separate policies for illegal Hindu and illegal Muslim immigrants, he has violated the secular spirit of the Constitution.”

Saikia urged the DGP to “pursue the same policy as the State Police followed to file a suo moto case against Dr Hiren Gohain over a simple statement”, and “also file a case against Sarma under Sections 153 (A) and 295 (A) IPC.”
