Delhi to monitor progress of projects in NE through satellite

Shillong, April 27: The Ministry of Development of North East Region (DoNER) has proposed to monitor the progress of various developmental projects in the north-east region through satellite images.

This was informed by the DoNER Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha today.

The monitoring of various developmental projects is proposed through a GIS cell to be established in the NEC Secretariat in Shillong in consultation with North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) located at Umiam, Meghalaya.

The NESAC is a registered society set up in September, 2000 as a joint initiative of Department of Space (DoS) and NEC for providing remote sensing based tural resource information for application in the areas of education, healthcare, disaster magement support and developmental communications.

NESAC is headed by Dr Singh himself in his capacity as chairman, NEC, with representatives from Department of Space, the governments of NE and the academia from the region.

The funding of the NESAC society is done through grants-in-aid from DoS and NEC on 50:50 basis.
