GUWAHATI, Jan 6: Cracking the whip on graft, the State Health department has not only put Principal of Regiol Dental College (RDC), Guwahati, Dr A.K. Adhyapak, under suspension on charges of committing massive fincial irregularities, but also barred him from engaging in private practice.

Sources told The Sentinel that Dr Adhyapak has been found to be involved in large scale fincial irregularities in connection with various schemes and works in RDC. The former Principal even misguided the governing body of RDC and illegally collected Rs 2 lakh each from candidates wishing to do internship in the dental college for the last few years. This apart, inquiries have also found that Dr Adhyapak misappropriated government funds meant to be paid to interns as stipend.

Sources said the practice of taking fees from internees in a government dental college is gross violation of DCI or any other academic norm. The suspended principal was also found involved in other fincial irregularities, including in purchase of dental equipment for RDC.

The State government has already started departmental proceedings against Dr Adhyapak. In the interest of free & fair investigation, the RDC principal has been put under suspension until further orders. The government has also barred Dr Adhyapak from private practice till further orders.

Meanwhile, Dr Atul Chandra Bhuyan has been appointed as Principal (In Charge) of RDC.
