Dhola incident : It’s killing of humans, not of Bengalis, says All Assam Students’ Union (AASU)

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has said that the Dhola incident is not killing of Bengalis, but killing of humans, and as such no one should try to derive political mileage out of it. The students’ body has appealed to all to exercise restraint so as to stop more killing in the State.

After an on-the-spot visit to Dhola on Saturday, AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi, while talking to this reporter, said: “We don’t want any communal uprising in the State. The government has failed to tackle the situation. It has failed to take preventive measures when the situation in the State is volatile. We want the culprits be punished. But, why has the government acted only against the two pro-talk ULFA leaders leaving aside others who have also made similar provocative statements?”

The AASU has also appealed to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee not to derive any political mileage out of the situation in Assam. “Any bid for political mileage will only vitiate the situation in Assam,” the AASU leader told her.
