Guwahati, June 3: BJP MLA Dilip Kumar Paul was elected deputy speaker of the Assam Assembly unopposed on the third and fil day of the first session of the 14th Assam Assembly.
Paul is a two-time MLA from Silchar.
Members from all the political parties congratulated the new deputy speaker.
Dilip Kumar Paul was elected in the by-polls to the Silchar assembly constituency after incumbent legislator Sushmita Dev of Congress vacated it on winning the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Later in the day, the Speaker adjourned the House sine die.
