Dispur conducts mock disaster drill

GUWAHATI, April 28: The latest Himalayan disaster that has dealt a body blow to Nepal has set the alarm bell ringing in Assam, a state that is no less at risk.

In order to promote disaster preparedness, mitigation and response, the Secretariat Administration Department (SAD), Assam, successfully conducted a mock drill today at Block D and E of the Assam Secretariat Complex, Guwahati.

The drill was supported and coordited by the Assam State Disaster Magement Authority (ASDMA) with active involvement of the tiol Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Civil Defence, 108 Ambulance Service, Police and Fire and Emergency Service of Assam, followed by fire. All the people were evacuated and injured participants were given first aid treatment before being shifted by 108 ambulances for further medication. The drill also witnessed the use of hydraulic platform to evacuate trapped victims, besides ropeways by the NDRF.
