Guwahati, March 6: Under fire after the burning of HSLC answer scripts at an evaluation centre in Jorhat, the State government today ordered departmental proceedings against Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) secretary Kamal Jyoti Gogoi and suspended the Jorhat inspector of schools Hiren Gogoi and the headmistress of Sankardev Semiry High School Binu Gogoi Borbarua.

In Jorhat, the night watchman of Sankardev Semiry was picked up by the police and interrogated.

A 10-member CID team led by SSP Raja Mar Tandon visited the HSLC evaluation centre and examined the place for over 10 hours. The investigating team interrogated the headmistress, the office staff and the teaching faculty and took finger prints.

Around 11,000 HSLC answer scripts of nine subjects belonging to students of 15 districts were damaged in the fire at the evaluation centre on Friday morning.

The affected students belong to 123 centres spread across Karbi Anglong, Darrang, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Kamrup, Kamrup (metro), Morigaon, lbari, Barpeta, Baksa, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Goalpara, Dima Hasao and Cachar.

The answer scripts were of Geography, Computer Science, Sanskrit, Hindi, Advance Mathematics, General Mathematics, Social Science, Assamese (MIL) and English papers.

SEBA sources said the board is planning to hold a re-examition in March-end. For those students unwilling to appear, they may be given the highest marks --- he/ she obtained in the other subjects --- in the subjects for which their scripts were charred in the fire.
