A number of heads of institutions have come under scanner for failing to utilize funds properly

Guwahati, June 12: The Assam government has instructed all universities and government and provincialized colleges in the State to submit all pending utilization certificates of government and UGC funds by June 15.

Sources said some institutions have defaulted in submission of utilization certificates of funds released way back in 2001-02.

Universities and colleges have received funds - ranging from Rs 10 lakh and above - from the State government for infrastructure development.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) had also sanctioned grants to various institutions.

However, a number of heads of institutions have come under scanner for failing to utilize the funds properly.

"There are certain norms to utilize UGC grants. In a number of cases, there were anomalies in utilization of the funds, which prompted the UGC to withhold second installments. Some college principals were even blacklisted by the UGC. Spot verifications revealed that a number of college principals made false claims of fund utilization," an official source said.
