Dispur to host global business summit

GUWAHATI, Feb 4: A delegation comprising of tiol Defense College officials and Defense Colleges of few other countries called on Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal at Dispur and shared their experiences of visiting the state.

The delegation was on a tour of Assam to study the socio-economic condition of the state as part of their routine itinerary and visited a few Upper Assam districts to understand the social milieu here.

On being queried about the various actions initiated by the government after coming to power in the state, Chief Minister Sonowal apprised the delegation that a lot of activities are undertaken to put the state on a high growth trajectory and build infrastructure at a fast pace.

Informing that initiatives like “Ease of Doing Business” are being implemented so that business houses can set up base in the state taking advantage of a single window facility for different clearances and cutting down red tape in the government system.

This would in turn create a lot of job opportunities for the unemployed youth here, he added.

Referring to Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali starting its manufacturing facility in the State, Chief Minister said that big business players are taking a keen interest in Assam as the government is making all efforts to create an investor friendly environment in the state and inviting the investors to come with an open mind.

Reiterating that employment generation is the top priority of the government, Chief Minister Sonowal said that industrialization would not be encouraged at the cost of the environment and all measures would be taken to maintain the environmental balance.

Sonowal also informed the delegates that Global Business Summit would be held in the state in November this where the government hopes to gain big ticket investments at par with other developed states in the country.

Saying that the State Government is working towards harnessing altertive energy sources and renewable energy, Sonowal stated that action plans are being chalked out to tap solar energy and also to increase gas production for growth in power generation.

As Assam is primarily an agro based economy, an increased thrust is being put to drive the farmers towards opting for double cropping to boost output and the government is trying to lure the youth to go for farming as a means for employment by providing incentives, added Sonowal.

Referring to Prime Minster rendra Modi’s Act East Policy, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the state government is making all efforts to open up the state and link it with the South East Asian countries so the growth in trade and economy can be achieved. The 14 member delegation comprised intertiol delegates from Sri Lanka, Egypt, Germany and Kenya apart from Indian Defense College officials.
