Draft photo electoral roll out

Claims & objections to be admitted till Nov 11 and disposed of by Dec 7 this year, fil roll to be published on Jan 11, 2016

GUWAHATI, Oct 12: Gearing up for the 2016 assembly elections only 6 months away, the Election Commission on Monday released the draft photo electoral roll for Assam. The elections will be based on the fil photo electoral roll which will be published on January 11 next year.

With the publication of the draft rolls, the EC has informed that claims and objections will be admitted till November 11 and the same will be disposed of by December 7 this year. The updating of database, merging of photographs, updating the control tables and preparation & printing of supplementary list will take place by December 24.

The qualifying date for special summary revision of photo electoral roll 2016 is January 1, 2016.

The fil photo electoral roll will be published on January 11, 2016.

As per the draft electoral roll published today, the total number of voters in the State is 1,92,30,650 of which 99,67,595 are male and 92,63,055 are female.

It may be mentioned that on January 20, 2015, the total number of voters in the State was 1,94,60,273, but due to continuous updation, 3,56,677 voters were deleted from the list following death and shifting of residence. However, 1,27,054 new voters have been included in the photo electoral roll.

The district-wise breakup of voters is: Karimganj - 7,47,790, Hailakandi - 4,36,553, Cachar- 10,64,798, Dima Hasao- 1,23,084, Karbi Anglong- 5,74,024, Dhubri- 11,56,954, Kokrajhar-4,87,057, Chirang- 1,81,145, Bongaigaon- 5,99,059, Goalpara- 6,40,101, Barpeta-12,05,978, Kamrup- 9,49,512, Kamrup (Metro)- 9,75,787, lbari- 4,59,991, Baksa - 4,43,055, Udalguri- 3,79,776, Darang - 6,86,378, Sonitpur-11,45,750, Morigaon - 5,07,484, gaon - 17,88,504, Golaghat - 6,08,584, Jorhat - 7,52,594, Sivasagar - 7,13,739, Lakhimpur - 6,28,845, Dhemaji - 4,42,102, Dibrugarh - 8,58,709, Tinsukia - 6,73,333.

Meanwhile, following EC instructions, the Election department of the State has instructed all the deputy commissioners and sub-divisiol officers (civil) to create awareness among voters through street plays, advertisement campaigns, leaflets etc. It has also asked booth level officers to take the message to the common people.

The authorities have also appealed the public to check their mes in the draft photo electoral roll and submit their claims and objections before November 11. It may be mentioned that, one can also check the draft electoral roll in the internet and submit their claims and objections in the desigted website www.ceoassam.nic.in.
