Dreaded supari killer bbed in city

Guwahati, Oct 5: From car-lifting, kidpping to murder – notorious 'supari killer' Bubu Konwar alias Binod Gogoi alias Angolikota was involved in more than two dozen crimes. After giving police the slip on a number of occasions in the past, Bubu's luck filly ran out last night when he was caught during a dramatic encounter in the city.

A police team led by Dispur Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Suprativ Lal Baruah bbed him from a residence at Malibagan in Kharguli last night, but not before a brief exchange of fire.

"We had received a tip-off regarding his presence there. We planned a swift operation and succeeded in apprehending him," the ACP said, adding that a 7.62mm pistol and seven rounds were seized from the crimil.

Police have found his involvement in more than twenty crimil cases – including three murders since 2008.

He had killed Congress leader Hemanta Baruah in Sivasagar in 2008 and teacher Jiten Gogoi in Jorhat in 2014. His latest victim was Noonmati resident Dhiraj Talukdar, whose car he sold off to an NSCN faction in galand.

"He commits all sorts of crimes for money. He takes Rs 2-4 lakh for murders," said a police official.

The other members of his gang – his wife Priyanka Gogoi, Papori Dutta, Amiya Das and Anta Konwar – were arrested earlier. Bubu used his wife to honey-trap his victims.
